So Simple...

So simple... it doesn't even have a title!

This painting didn't take very long to make. It was just one of those days where I felt I NEEDED to paint. And with the crazy busy-ness of my life lately, I guess what needed to come out was simplicity.

But maybe as soon as the canvas isn't blank anymore, all simplicity fades away? Or maybe I just ended up spewing out a visual rendition of my "organized chaos" (different layers, directions, colours)? I'm not sure. All I know is that it felt good to step away from that organized chaos, and do what my heart told me to do. :)

"Am I Really All the Things that are Outside of Me?/
Would I Complete Myself Without the Things I Like, Around?"
-lyrics by Animal Collective, "Taste"

This is a collage I finished yesterday, inspired by the lyrics of an Animal Collective song (here)
These guys' music may be really "weird", but their lyrics are deep.

I apologize for the really bad quality of these photos... I'm not a good photographer... I promise the collage looks way better in real life ;)

I Want My Cupcake!!!

There really is no explanation for this drawing other than: I was baking cupcakes, and I while I was waiting for them to bake, I drew this... lol

The Ice Cream Machine

I recently had an art date with one of my good friends. Her son is 6 years old and he likes to draw machines, trucks, construction sites, underground spy caves, underground mines... It's amazing!!! He has the mind of an engineer... Well, I had the privilege to learn how to draw my own machine, under his supervision of course! He showed me how to draw the motor in the bottom left corner, and the cabin at the top.... Then he let me customize my machine with an add-on: the ice cream holder. My final drawing is nothing compared to his intricate, detailed compositions, but I had fun trying :)

It truly is refreshing to see the world through a child's eyes...

5 Days in the Life...

I tried to draw every day last week, but some days I got distracted and forgot to, or didn't have time to. But it's ok, because on the days that I did take the time to do this, I had fun. It's like a little mental getaway of sorts :)

March 4th was a Friday, and I guess I was feeling pretty 80s or something.. ;) haha the colors in real life are neon...

March 5th I got this weird feeling at one point, that felt like some sort of "foreshadowing" to spring. The next day a lot of snow melted away with rain, so that was great!!! :)

March 7th, Monday, I was looking at my calculator a lot because I was given a new method to report my work hours to Natalie. So I drew the day like my calculator.

March 9th I had some quiet time early in the morning, watching the sun rise outside my window. There were some nice fluffy snowflakes falling peacefully. Some Canadian geese flying back from the south were making me laugh because the way they were flying made them look like they were freezing cold and/or needed to go to the bathroom.

March 10th I just wanted to try something with watercolor again, but it turned out looking weird and not as I imagined it would. Oh well.

I completely forgot about these until today (wednesday the 16th!) So I'm gonna try to start another week of drawings tomorrow :)

Les sorcières de Salem (The Crucible)

I don't have any new art to post today, so I decided to post an illustration I made for one of my college classes in 2009. It's a design for a poster for the play called "The Crucible" by Arthur Miller. I've personally never seen the play, but I read about it and used what little I knew about the plot to inspire me with this piece. I'm very proud of this illustration :)

MGMT Background

Not sure if it's really sad that I took the time to make a background like this... Hahaha

Young Forever: An Homage to MGMT

This is my homage to the band who wants to stay young forever :)
Everyone who knows me well, knows that I can't go a day without listening to – and/or talking about – MGMT. About a year ago, I was inspired to colour this page in homage to MGMT's video for "Electric Feel" (if you haven't seen it, check it out here).

Happy New Year :)

"Find what matters to you and commit like crazy to it. It's a new year to be someone better." quoted from Bud Caddell on this blog.
