From My Sketchbook... "An Afternoon Downtown"

July 2 was a beautiful, warm, summer day after a rainy and cold "Canada Day". I spent the afternoon downtown in Fredericton with a friend. We sketched these three sights. I wish I could post her drawings too. She does a great job at capturing things in a more realistic way, whereas I draw things more graphically and it's interesting to compare both results.

It's also nice to reminisce about summer during the dreary days of November :)

From My Sketchbook... "Eyes So Dark"

I was cleaning my art room today, and I stumbled upon these sketches I drew back in 2008, when I was in college. One of our class projects was to design a logo for a local band called "Tempting Tragedy". These aren't the ones I submitted, and they would make terrible logos, but I like them as drawings. I think they'd make good tattoos :)

From My Sketchbook... "Peacebone"

"A peacebone got found in the dinosaur wing
I've been jumping all over but my views are slowly shrinking
I was a Jugular vein in a juggler's girl
I was supposedly leaking the most interesting colors
While half of my fingers are dipped in the sand
You progress in letters, but you're used to cooking broccoli
The other side of take out is mildew on rice
And an obsession with the past is like a dead fly
Only a few things are related to the "old times"
Then we did believe in magic and we did die
It's not my words that you should follow, it's your insides
You're just an inside
Adjust your insides
You're just an inside"

My Strange Bird Things

Today I figured it's time to stop procrastinating and actually post some of my own art lol. The first one is a sketch I drew on August 28, 2009, during an "art lunch" with my friend and coworker. It was so random, but I liked it so much that I wanted to paint some more "bird things". So the next two are paintings from January 16 2010 and April 11 2010. Who knows, there might be more to come! :)

How Ink Is Made & The Hilarity of YouTube Comments

Not only is this a great, informative, and just darn beautiful video to watch, but it also has some pretty epic comments too. I'm always amazed and entertained by the sheer diversity of comments one can find on most YouTube videos. It's just so fascinating! So, I'm telling you, if you want a good laugh, check them out here :)

One of my favourites is: "You're damn right the ink is gonna be good when it's mixed by Superman!"

P.S. Thanks, Mountie, for sending me the link to this video in the first place! :D

"Designer From Hell"

There's a blog called "Clients from Hell" where people (mostly designers, I assume) basically post miscommunications that they've had with their clients, or super-hilarious things their clients have said. Definitely worth checking out.

Ok, so that being said, if we (designers) can have a sense of humour about our clients, why can't we have a sense of humour about ourselves too? I want to share this funny "designer from hell" moment I had while emailing a client yesterday:

Me: [...] And, I’d also like to point out that in the “Baseball [name has been removed to protect the innocent]” logo, the “leaves” are actually black, but because you only have 4 colors, the “leaves” will be the dark blue of the hoodie. Is that ok?

Client: Perfect. Thanks. I think those leaves are baseball stitches :)

Matt Mays & The Australian Animals

Last week, during his show, Matt Mays commented that these Australian animals were staring at him... It made us all laugh :D I think this is their way of apologizing for freaking him out or something... lol! Or maybe it's just my way of saying "please come back to Moncton soon!! :D" (P.S. This used to be a "Boomerang's" Restaurant, hence the Australian animals eating with napkins around their necks... just in case anyone was wondering...lol!)

Argos VS Eskimos game in MONCTON!!!

It was a beautiful, sunny, fall day for the CFL Touchdown Atlantic football game this Sunday. The event is being talked about so much, so I don't really want to write much about it. It sure was a great event for Moncton, and the maritimes. Thanks to everyone who brought the game to Moncton! :)

MATT MAYS!!!

Thursday night was my first time seeing Matt Mays live!!! He and his band were in town for the Molson Canadian and Lotto Max Street Party hosted in light of the Scotiabank CFL Touchdown Atlantic game happening in Moncton, New Brunswick this weekend. They were PHENOMENAL to say the least!!!! Matt Mays, if you read this, thank you (and the band) for the awesome show and for letting my friend get her picture taken with you! You are such a genuinely kind person :)

What a phenomenal show!! :D

On Melancholy Hill - Song of the Day

Check out this video:
On Melancholy Hill by the Gorillaz
It's SO AWESOME, I thought it should be the song of the day! :D

In my opinion, the Gorillaz make EPIC music and videos alike. So they are definitely starry noise!

The new Twitter

I think it's going to be great! Looks like it's going to be a lot more interactive than it currently is. Easier, to share stuff. More instantly gratifying. I can't wait to try it! It seems very similar to Facebook now... Maybe eventually all of these social networking sites will look the same...

(And I really like the video, with the cute music and everything. It really captured my attention :D.)

We all scream for ice cream

While I was eating ice cream the other day, I got a random flashback of a yellow truck with a swan on it. I fondly remembered Schwan's ice cream truck, parked in front of our house when I was a little kid, stopping to deliver yellow tubs full of delicious vanilla ice cream! Mmm! The truck and its product were instantly recognizable, even to a preschooler! Every once in a while, I'd beg my mom for some "swan ice cream". And, every time she bought another kind, I knew it wasn't the same, because the tub wasn't yellow, or the swan logo was missing from it. To me, that means Schwan's did a good job on marketing their product.
